“HIGH PROTEIN COFFEE” RECIPE (SIMPLE & TASTY)

Whey protein doesn’t have to be limited to regular cold “protein shakes” only…

If you want to try out something new for a pre-workout energy boost (or just at any other time of day when you’re craving it), give this simple “high protein coffee” recipe a try.

All it takes is a scoop of your favorite protein powder (I prefer chocolate, but any flavor will do), mixed in with a regular cup of coffee. Give it a good thorough stir until it’s nicely mixed in, and then for a bit of extra flavor you can top it off with some cinnamon as well.

The whey basically acts like a “creamer”, and the resulting taste and texture is actually quite nice. It might sound a bit weird, but since whey is derived from dairy it actually makes perfect sense.

Keep in mind that certain protein powders will be easier or harder to mix up depending on the brand, and if your current whey protein is particularly “chunky” then you’ll really need to give it a good stir to get it blended in. (As a side note, you can check out my recommended protein powders if you’re looking for a high quality product that tastes great and mixes easily)

Some people have asked me if mixing whey protein into hot coffee somehow “damages” the protein and reduces its effectiveness, but this is really not something to worry about.

When protein is exposed to high heat it does in fact “break down” slightly in the process, but this is exactly what your body does during the process of digestion anyway in order to separate complete proteins into their individual amino acid components.

You can check out my previous post, “Does Heat Destroy Whey?” for a complete explanation of this.

Lastly, if you prefer to used iced coffee as opposed to hot coffee then that’s a perfectly acceptable option as well.
