For those of us who are busy and constantly on the go, protein bars are a great way to help streamline our bodybuilding and fitness diets.

They’re small, easy to carry around and provide a quick shot of protein and carbs anytime we need it.

You can either make your protein bars at home (check out my previous post, “The Best Homemade Protein Bars” for a great recipe you can follow) or purchase regular, pre-packaged commercial protein bars instead.

There are literally hundreds of different bars on the market to choose from, but the reality is that the vast majority of them are fairly poor options. Most are packed with low quality protein sources (such as gelatin and soy protein), high amounts of simple sugar, junk ingredients and useless fillers and additives that you really don’t need in your diet.

Usually, they’re nothing more than an over-glorified candy bar.
