THE BEST PROTEIN BARS ON THE MARKET (QUEST BARS REVIEW)
For those of us who are busy and constantly on the go, protein bars are a great way to help streamline our bodybuilding and fitness diets.
They’re small, easy to carry around and provide a quick shot of protein and carbs anytime we need it.
You can either make your protein bars at home (check out my previous post, “The Best Homemade Protein Bars” for a great recipe you can follow) or purchase regular, pre-packaged commercial protein bars instead.
There are literally hundreds of different bars on the market to choose from, but the reality is that the vast majority of them are fairly poor options. Most are packed with low quality protein sources (such as gelatin and soy protein), high amounts of simple sugar, junk ingredients and useless fillers and additives that you really don’t need in your diet.
Usually, they’re nothing more than an over-glorified candy bar.
Why I Recommend Quest Protein Bars
With Quest Nutrition, you’re getting a product much different than the vast majority of protein bars out there. In fact, I would say that these are my #1 choice for commercial protein bars at the moment and that they can definitely be included as a regular part of your bodybuilding and fitness diet.
There are a few key benefits that make Quest Bars superior to virtually any other option out there right now…
High Quality Protein Source
The primary source of protein found in Quest Bars is derived from whey. Whey is the highest quality source of protein on the planet as it has the highest bio-availability (meaning your body will absorb the greatest amount) and the best amino acid profile for supporting lean muscle growth.
Milk protein is the secondary source, which is a combination of both casein and whey. (Each bar contains a total of 20 grams of protein.)
Most other protein bars use gelatin as one of their main sources, which is a low quality, incomplete protein derived from animal by-products, such as skin, horns, hoofs and bones.
High In Fiber
Every Quest Bar is packed with around 15-17 grams of fiber derived from an oligosaccharide called “isomalto”. This is an easily digestible, “non gassy” form of fiber that helps to control hunger, improve digestive health and even prevent certain diseases.
Most bodybuilders should be aiming for around 30-60 grams of fiber daily, and including a Quest Bar in your diet is a very easy way to help meet those totals.
Every bar contains its own specific mix of nuts (from peanuts, almonds and/or cashews) and nut butters (peanut butter or almond butter) to deliver the healthy fats you need and to keep the bars soft and chewy.
Each bar contains between 5-10 grams of healthy fats depending on which flavor you choose.
No Junk Ingredients
Unlike most low quality bars that contain an endless list of fillers, binders and other additives, Quest Bars are clean, simple and contain only the ingredients you need without any extra junk added in.
Despite containing such a simple ingredient list, Quest Bars actually taste quite good and have a nice chewy texture that makes them a perfectly enjoyable snack to include in your diet.
A great way to make the bars taste even better is to toss them into the microwave for a few seconds to give them an even softer feel.
There is no current data to suggest that artificial sweeteners are harmful to human health when consumed in practical amounts, but for those who do consider this an issue of concern, Quest provides a “natural line” that uses only natural sweeteners such as stevia and erythritol.
Wrap Up & Where To Buy
If you’re looking for a high quality protein bar to include in your diet, I’d definitely suggest giving Quest Bars a try.
They’re convenient, have a superior nutritional profile to anything else available right now, and they great taste as well.
They’re not the cheapest option available on a per-serving basis, but keep in mind that any time you purchase a protein bar you’re paying for convenience as well. Bars are also usually more filling than regular protein powders.
